Personal Statement

I'm Simon, currently floating somewhere between technical solutions specialist and a quirky creative visionary, best described as a 'creative technologist'. I have a passion for digital, I see it as an enabler, which can complement and benefit people's everyday lives, when the user experience is right.

I have had various jobs and interests over the years, but from everything I have experienced, I work best when I am presented with a challenge, I thrive on the new, if something hasn't been done before I'm not scared, I'm excited. I feel this is due to being compelled to learn, I have a thirst for knowledge.

Above all I would describe myself as a good and fun person, I have a personality, which I think is important to bring into the working environment. I am a firm believer that as we spend a large portion of our time in the workplace, it should be a fun and friendly environment, as people who have fun together and form relationships often produce better results.

My role in PZ Cussons demands a wide range of skills, which include; User Experience Design, Information Architecture, Business Analysis, Agile Project Management & User Acceptance Testing.

My role is 'cross category' where I support and deliver projects across the large and diverse portfolio, from white goods in Nigeria, to Self-Tan products in London. Like Digital Media: Project Manager

July 2013 - November 2014

During my time at Like Digital Media I worked on a wide variety of projects, across a range of devices / technologies. I was originally bought into the business, shortly after they formed, due to my in-depth knowledge of imaging. I worked on a variety of image based projects, such as delivering Ben Sherman's iOS app & an outfit builder for Miss Selfridge (web + Facebook application). During these projects I co-ordinated the shoots, as well as managing the developers & leading a production team I on boarded into the company.

Like Digital are fundamentally an e-commerce web based company, specialising in fashion. As the projects above weren't full time, they created a project management role for me (the first in their start up) to deliver projects to likes of Lo'occitane, British Council of Offices and the key project management for the relaunch Gieves and Hawkes UK and China as well as many more.

Volunteer Work

MK1 Golf Owners Club: Comms / Marketing Manager - 2014 - Present

Being on the committee once before in 2007-09 as the Web Manager, I was asked to come back and take on a newly created role as Communications Manager which was initially designed for someone to send some newsletters. However a lot had changed since I left in 2009 (due to university) and a bigger role was needed, so I took on the Marketing side of things.

I realised quickly that the traffic had dropped, and conversation was happening mostly in social channels, which isn't good for a club that's trying to retain information for future generations. In the last 2 years I have given the club a voice on social, through a Facebook page (7,500+), Instagram page (16,000+) & twitter (1,000+) in order to drive traffic back to the forum.

Alongside this, I scoped and managed the update of our website, which is now full responsive, has multi image upload (into a content delivery network) & social feeds on the homepage, this was all will a budget of less than £10k over both years, for the build + marketing, in 2016 we won the award for best Website & us of Social Media at the Classic & Sports Car Awards as part of the NEC Classic Car Show.

We're currently sitting at over 30,000 members, with 1500+ of them paid and yearly traffic of around 4 million hits. I will continue to help the club grow over the coming years; the next phase is to implement an eCRM solution for automated marketing campaigns.

Hobbies & Interests

Extreme Sports, Volkswagen & Pun enthusiast.

I'm a self-confessed digital geek, although not your usual type, I also enjoy getting my hands dirty. I'm currently restoring my 1986 MK1 Golf GTi which you can see below, sadly it's no longer in that condition, but will return to its former glory on day in the future.

I am a very active person, I try to snowboard & surf at least once every year, I've been known to get back on a skateboard from time to time as well (yes still), I ride a bike (which I built - dirty hands), play football, run and spend as little time as possible in the gym - all of this because I love food, mostly kebabs.

Photography is still a large part of my personal life, I always have a roll of film in one of my many cameras, I'm constantly trying to think of new ideas and push the boundaries of what photography is - I have more than a keen interest in imaging, as part of my degree I hand built a camera sensor.

I also handed coded this CV.
